SPIELMAN, Charles "Chuck"
SPIELMAN, Charles “Chuck.” (Dubuque, IA, Aug. 7, 1934--Dubuque, IA, July 31, 2020) Chuck was the son of Frank “Hank” and Geraldine (Koppes) Spielman, and married Helen A. Miller on October 15, 1960 in Darlington, WI.
Chuck attended DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL and served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. After returning to Dubuque, he worked for the former DUBUQUE PACKING COMPANY until 1975. He owned and operated Spielman’s Lounge from 1970 until 1977 and then opened Spielman’s Supper Club/Ballyclough Inn which he operated until May of 1990.
Chuck served on the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission from 1991 to 2003. He was involved with Albrecht Acres since 1975 and started the Albrecht Acres Hall of Fame. He was instrumental in starting the Annual Golf Outing which in 2020 was in its 23 year.
Chuck had a great love of softball. He played for many years and sponsored many teams through his tavern. He also helped start many local fast pitch tournaments. He worked to establish the DUBUQUE FAST PITCH HALL OF FAME in 1975 and was inducted into it in 1982.
Other accomplishments and memberships include his lifetime membership in the Knights of Columbus Council John F. Kennedy Council #5513. His bowling talents resulted in him receiving multiple 1st place trophies at Knights of Columbus Bowling tournaments. He was inducted into the Kiwanis Hall of Fame in 1982, helped to establish AAA Bass Fishing in 2005 and volunteered with HOSPICE OF DUBUQUE since 2006.
