SPAUTZ, Richard K. "Duke." (Dubuque, IA, July 18, 1933--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 7, 2007). The son of John M. and Alvina G. (Drumm) Spautz, "Duke," a graduate of LORAS ACADEMY, was a veteran of the KOREAN CONFLICT serving with the Army. Duke was employed by DUBUQUE BANK AND TRUST COMPANY for 46 years. He retired in 1998 as an executive vice president.
A well known drummer, he has been credited with bringing live JAZZ to the Dubuque area. "Duke" played in several bands in the area and formed the DIXIELAND ALL-STARS, the Dick Spautz Trio, and the Jazz Tones.
He owned and operated Duke's Place west of Dubuque, served on the board of directors for the Hoffman Development Center and was a member of St. Patrick's Parish and the Dubuque Men's Association.
