SOMMERFELD, Adolph Gustav, (Dubuque, IA., Jan. 15, 1872--Dubuque, IA, Mar. 4, 1949). Educated in the local public schools, Sommerfeld immediately became associated with his father in the DUBUQUE STEAM DYE WORKS. It was claimed at his death that the firm established in 1860 was the first of its kind established in Iowa and the fourth established in the United States. He succeeded his father as the lead of the company in 1893.

The business changed its name to SOMMERFELD'S SANITONE CLEANERS in 1933. He retired in 1941.
