SIMON, Angela C.
SIMON, Angela C. (Fort Sill, OK, Oct. 29, 1949--England, July 31, 2010). Simon graduated from the University of Iowa Law School with distinction in 1985. She became a partner in the Hammer, Simon & Jensen law firm.
Winning the Stephenson Trial Advocacy Competition "Best Litigator" award while in law school was an indication of honors to come. She was the recipient of the International Association of Trial Lawyers' Award. She was also listed in an edition of Two Thousand Notable American Women. The Iowa Academy of Trial Lawyers named her a fellow, a distinction limited to 250 lawyers practicing in Iowa.
In addition to membership in national and local bar associations, Simon served on the Supreme Court Commission on Continuing Legal Education and completed a six-year term on the Judicial Nominating Committee for District 1A. She was a member of the board of directors of the Dubuque Bar Association and of the DUBUQUE RACING ASSOCIATION including two years as its president. She also worked as a mediator through the Iowa State Bar Association mediator program. Simon became an assistant professor at the UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE in 2006 and it was said was responsible for making criminal justice one of the leading majors at the university.
