SHIREMAN, Andrea. (Dubuque, IA, July 2, 1944--Dubuque, IA, Aug. 25, 2018). Shireman was the executive director of the Washington Neighborhood Center & Homeless Shelter for more than twelve years after it opened in 1993. After the shelter closed, she provided rides to people needing medical appointments or trips to the grocery sore. (1)

She and her husband also helped organize Christmas dinner events at LORAS COLLEGE to help those in need. The program had outgrown the event held at IMMANUEL CONGREGATIONAL UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST. (2) Trolleys of Dubuque, Inc. provided rides for many of those attending which made the event held at Loras possible. In 1997, the fifth year of the dinner, there were 450 "guests."(3)

She was also active in the "End of Summer Bash" (Become Active, Stop Homelessness). (4)
