SCHROEDER, Dennis. (Waterloo, IA, Dec. 19, 1945--Waverly, IA, Oct. 16, 2019) Dennis graduated from Denver High School and attended the University of Northern Iowa, graduating in 1968 with his Bachelor of Arts degree and later obtained his Master’s in Education. (1)

He entered the U.S. Army in 1971 and later transferred to the Iowa National Guard. (2)

Dennis spent the majority of his teaching career at STEPHEN HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL, starting in 1973 and retiring in 2011. While at Hempstead he was department chair of social studies, talented and gifted coordinator, and led the National Council for Economics Team, winning the competition in 2002, second place in 2001 and 2005, and third place in 2004. (3)

Dennis was held in the highest respect by this students. His preparation of students for honors tests in which they earned college credit led to hundreds of students leaping forward academically in college work. In one of the purest signs of the affection and respect in which he was held, one year's class had t-shirts imprinted with his image and wore them to class. (4)

Oh my goodness. He was so good. I learned so much from him.
I loved when he would say when we write AP US History we don't
need to salute the flag at the end of every essay test and no
blinding snow either. He was one of the best and we were lucky
                         to learn from him! (5)
So sorry to hear this news. Mr. Schroeder was one of a kind and
                         a wonderful teacher. (6)
