SANOFI BIO INDUSTRIES
SANOFI BIO INDUSTRIES. Sanofi Bio Industries was Paris-based firm and world's largest gelatin manufacturer. The Dubuque branch purchased in 1989 was formerly the Keystone Gelatin division of DUBUQUE PACKING COMPANY and then part of the Omaha-based Beef America. The Dubuque plant is the company's only United States-based gelatin plant.
The local operation was a processor of pork skins from a 700-mile radius of Dubuque. Companies that purchased gelatin from Sanofi used the product in the manufacture of dozens of items including marshmallows, gelatin desserts, and hard and soft medicine capsules.
The 1972 through 1985 Dubuque City Directory listed the Keystone Gelatin Company at 2350 Kerper.
The 1987 Dubuque City Directory listed Dubuque Packing Company Keystone Gelatin at the same address.
The 1993 Dubuque City Directory listed Sanofi Bio Industries Inc. at the same address.
