RUNDE, Robert (Benton, WI, Mar. 11, 1934--Dec. 24, 2011). Business Agent, Machinists Local 1238. Between 1951 and 1969 while working at ADAMS COMPANY (Encyclopedia Dubuque), Runde moved up through the union serving as union steward, then vice-president and finally president of Machinists Local 1238 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union. He was elected the business representative of the local in 1969 and held the position until his retirement in 1993. He helped establish the United Labor Participation Committee and served as its vice-president from 1973-1993.

In addition to his activities in Dubuque, Runde served as business agent for Local 1096 in Freeport, Illinois; president of the Dubuque Federation of Labor for seven years; and member of the executive board of the Iowa State Council of Machinists for sixteen years including four as president. He was a delegate to the Machinists National Political League and an active member of the Democratic Party.

Runde was initiated into the DUBUQUE AREA LABOR HALL OF FAME in 2003.
