ROCK BONE. "Rock bone" was a term used by miners in Dubuque for a massive vein of smithsonite. Smithsonite, named for James Smithson, the founder of the Smithsonian Institution, has been and is still being used as an important, although rather minor source of ZINC.
The Royce and Frost Mine, one site of MINING, was a local source of rock bone.
