PRUDENTIAL FINANCIAL. Cigna Retirement and Investment Services chose Dubuque in 1989 for a site to establish an additional service center. This was to help service employer-sponsored retirement plans and their plan participants.
The employees of the new operation worked during 1990 in temporary quarters--ten trailers on a parking lot--as construction was completed on a new office building at 680 Town Clock Plaza (later the NICC Town Clock Center). This facility accommodated up to three hundred employees.
The success of the operation led to employment reaching the 300 mark in less than five years. In February, 2001 the business moved into a new facility at 500 Main Street.
In 2004 Prudential acquired CIGNA's retirement business. In 2010 an estimated 550 people were employed by Prudential Retirement in Dubuque.
