POWDER MAGAZINE. Explosives were important in mining, but dangerous to the general population. In 1844 Jesse P. FARLEY was authorized to build a powder magazine, and all persons who sold powder were required to deposit the same inside. In November, 1844, Farley & Bonson presented a bill of $206.85 for construction costs. (1) Located along Eighth Street, the building was ordered sold at public auction to the highest bidder in August, 1850. (2)
