PNEUMONIA. Pneumonia is an abnormal inflammatory condition of the lung. Typical symptoms of the disease include cough, chest pain, fever, and difficulty in breathing.
In 1900 more than one hundred orphans were sickened during a pneumonia epidemic at a Franciscan orphan asylum in Dubuque. A report at the time suggested as many as four might die.
