PLAISTER, James. (England, Aug. 9, 1823--Dubuque, IA, June 7, 1901). Plaister moved to Dubuque in 1849 and became associated with James Dyer, the founder of Dyersville. At one time Plaister and Dyer owned the location of Dyersville, Manchester, a section of Earlville, and 3,200 acres of land in Dubuque County known as "Farley Prairie."

Plaister's insurance business was started in partnership with J. W. Smith in 1862 making Plaister one of Dubuque's longest serving insurance agents at the time of his death.
