PERSONAL LIBERTY ASSOCIATION
PERSONAL LIBERTY ASSOCIATION. Organized prior to 1879, the Association expressed its willingness to assist in the prosecution of any bar owner who sold liquor to minors or habitual "drunkards." (1)
In October 1893 the association was concerned with grocery store owners who took out a government license to sell whiskey in quantities not to exceed five gallons, but who were prohibited by law to sell at retail. It was charged that these grocers did sell at retail and gave away large quantities to keep business. (2)
In April 1894 a number of saloons in the city closed during the church hours in response to a request of the Association. (3)
