OUR LADY OF GUADALUPE. Founded in 2001 as the first of its kind in Iowa by the HOLY FAMILY CATHOLIC SCHOOLS, Our Lady of Guadalupe consisted of eleven kindergarten students in a unique Spanish immersion program. (1) By 2015 the number of students had grown to 170 pre-kindergarten to fifth-grade students. (2)

Kindergarten and first-grade students were taught in Spanish for ninety-percent of the day. Lessons taught in Spanish and English balanced out to fifty-percent by the time the students entered fifth grade. Religion classes were taught in English. (3)

In 2015 the program at Our Lady of Guadalupe received second place honors in the national Spanish Immersion School of the Year competition. The Dubuque school was the first Catholic school to place in the competition which was organized by the Education Office of the Embassy of Spain in the United States. The award signified excellence in integrated Spanish and English learning. (4)
