ORRICK, William L.
ORRICK, William Legrand (Blaine County, MD, July 2, 1844--1913). Orrick moved west soon after leaving school and settled in Steven's Point, Wisconsin where he worked in a store and lumberyard. He was later placed in charge of John W. Robinson's lumber business in Conants, Wisconsin. This lasted three years when he joined the Union forces in the CIVIL WAR.
Leaving the service at the end of the war, Orrick came to Dubuque where he was a bookkeeper for Allen Young, a druggist. He remained in that position for two years before joining the firm of JOHN MEHLHOP. He was made a partner in 1874 and the company was renamed JOHN MEHLHOP, SON AND COMPANY. In 1890 a stock company was formed for the company in which Orrick served as secretary and treasurer.
