ORDER OF RAINBOW FOR GIRLS
ORDER OF RAINBOW FOR GIRLS. In 1922, Rainbow was created for young women whose fathers were members of the Masonic Lodge, and their friends. Although a Christian minister named W. Mark Sexson founded the organization, today the leaders of Rainbow Girls respect and welcome all girls from every religion. Their main focus is more on the spiritual principles of being a kind and caring person. While the Rainbow practices and programs continue to evolve, the basic teachings of faith, hope, and charity remain a cornerstone of this organization. In 2011 there were more than 850 assemblies across the world that have bimonthly meetings.
The Dubuque Assembly No. 13 of the Order of Rainbow for Girls was constituted at the MASONIC TEMPLE at 11th and Locust STREETS on May 2, 1925. The order was sponsored by Julien Chapter Order of Eastern Star No. 125 and Mrs. Violet Bechtel was appointed as Mother Advisor. There were twenty-eight girls in the first class.
On May 19, 1925 Mrs. Grace Sprecher, State Deputy, held a meeting with the girls at the Masonic Temple and at this time the Dubuque Assembly was instituted.
The 1937 Dubuque Consurvey Directory through 1987 Dubuque City Directory listed 1155 Locust as the organization's address.
