NESS, Mary. (Dubuque, IA-- ). Beginning work working in her mother's restaurant, M & L Cafe, Mary worked in several area food and beverage businesses including the Metal Trades Club, COPPER KETTLE AND GRILLE (THE), and RIVERSIDE BOWL.

She became the first female business agent in Iowa for the Hotel, Restaurant & Bartenders Union Local 527 which, during the 1960s and 1970s had 122 shops under contract.

In 2016 she was inducted into the DUBUQUE AREA LABOR HALL OF FAME.
