MARTIN, Moses H.
MARTIN, M. H. (New York, NY, Apr. 10, 1854--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 25, 1943). Martin was the son of George and Mary (Murdock) Martin, natives of Ireland. During his infancy, he was brought by his parents to Dubuque. He acquired his education in the public schools and his first job was as a mail carrier.
Martin purchased his father's freight and transfer line and in 1889 formed a partnership with Paul E. Strelau, under the firm name of MARTIN-STRELAU CO. (THE). In the freight and transfer business, they employed twenty-five men. They also sold wood, anthracite and bituminous coal, and oak, maple and pine woods.
