MARCHESCHI, Nadine. A graduate of the University of Illinois with a double major in radio/television and journalism, traveled widely looking for employment before settling in Dubuque as the only female disc jockey in the city. She joined the staff of WDBQ/KIWI in May 1976 where she operated the overnight show before taking over the 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. time at KIWI. Her career progressed and by late 1978 she hosted the morning shows at KMEL-FM in San Francisco.

While working at KIWI, all the programming, except the news at noon, was automated. She had the choice of playing requests or relying on the FM station's music sheet. With the library of music at the station containing an estimated 1,000 songs, KIWI could go about 10 days with repeating a song.
