LITTLE MISS IOWA. In 1975 Debbie Saylor became the first handicapped contestant to be crowned Little Miss Iowa in the fifteen-year history of the Miss Teenage Contest.

Saylor, then a student at the Iowa Braille and Sight Saving School, lived in Dubuque her first six years. Saylor won the contest over fifteen other girls by playing the piano and singing "Debbie's Sonata," a song she had composed.
