LINK, Martha McCullough. (Belfast, Ireland, 1885--Dubuque, IA, 1944). One of ten children born to John and Delia Conway McCullough, Martha grew up in Londonderry in Northern Ireland. In 1903 she emigrated to the United States at the age of eighteen, received a degree from Marquette University, and moved to Iowa in 1909. Prior to moving to Dubuque in 1912, she lived in Waukon, Iowa.

Trained as a physician and surgeon, she opened her office in the BANK AND INSURANCE BUILDING and was preceded in her medical practice only by Dr. Nancy HILL. She married Dr. Nicholas Link, a dentist, in 1913 and they chose to share office space at 110 W. 12th Street. The Link family grew to nine with the birth over the years of seven children who worshiped at ST. PATRICK'S CATHOLIC CHURCH.

In addition to her family and medical practice, Dr. Link was a member of the American Medical Association, Dubuque County Medical Society, and served a term as president of the Ladies Medical Society of Iowa. Her medical practice extended thirty years. She died after three years of poor health and was buried at St.. Mary's Cemetery north of Waukon. (1)
