LEVENS AND DILLON
LEVENS AND DILLON. Levens & Dillon, operated by Abe Levens and Timothy Dillon, was founded in 1856 as the W. H. Peabody & Co. D. H. CONYNGHAM succeeded W. H. Peabody & Co., and Levens and Dillon bought out the interests of the latter in 1881.
The company was an agent for California brandies; ports; sherries; Angelicas; holders of bonded whiskies, such as Old Crow, Kentucky Club, Hermitage, Anderson and Buchanan Sour Mashes, Hermitage, Guckenheimer and Rutland Ryes; imported and domestic cigars; and importers of gins, rums, and brandies.
In 1887 the company had eight local employees and four traveling salesmen in Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and the Dakotas.
The 1883 through 1890-91 Dubuque City Directory listed 336 Main.
