LABOR DAY. Labor Day was established in Iowa at a meeting of the Iowa State Federation of Labor in the following resolution:

Be it resolved by the tenth annual convention of the
Iowa State Federation of Labor, That we observe the
first Sunday of June as memorial day for the purpose
of gathering together all our members in their res-
pective localities and decorating the graves of our
deceased brothers a sisters as a tribute to their
              memory; be it further
Resolved, That our secretary is instructed to notify
all local unions affiliated of the observance of this
              day in due time hereafter.

The first Labor Day in Dubuque was therefore held on the first Sunday of June, 1903.
