KIES, Robert E., Jr.
KIES, Robert E., Jr. (Dubuque, IA, May 30, 1938--Rockford, IL, Dec. 12, 2013). From 1971 through 1974, Kies was a teacher and coach (basketball, golf, football, and baseball) at STEPHEN HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL.
Kies served as a teacher, athletic director, and basketball coach of Quincy Notre Dame High School from 1981 to 1996. While at Quincy, he led the basketball team to 157 wins in 8 seasons; and coached the boy’s golf team to five state tournament appearances. He helped create the QND Hall of Fame in 1991, and was inducted himself in 2012. Other accomplishments include winning the State Basketball Championship with Beloit Catholic in 1977.
Kies was named Illinois High School State Athletic Director of the year in 1995 and was inducted into the Illinois Golf Coaches Hall of Fame the same year. He became the Athletic Director of Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock in 1996, where he stayed until his retirement.
