JOHNSON, Arthur C.
JOHNSON, Arthur C. (Rock Rapids, IA, Dec. 17, 1874--Unknown). Completing his education with a course at the Cedar Rapids, Iowa Business College, Johnson became an assistant cashier at the Commercial Bank in Maxwell, Iowa. He was later employed in a clerical capacity by the Burlington, Cedar Rapids & Northern Railway Company. He continued his work in railroading as a clerk in the office of the freight auditor of the Chicago. Rock Island & Pacific Railway Company when the former road was absorbed by the latter.
Realizing that railroad work offered little opportunity for his advancement, he resigned his position, and, returning to Manchester, became secretary of the Manchester Lumber Company, in which he had a financial interest.
In the spring of 1900, Johnson came to Dubuque as a department manager for the STANDARD LUMBER COMPANY, a position he held five years. He then helped to organize the [[CENTRAL LUMBER AND COAL COMPANY, of which he served as secretary and a director.
