JAMES CUSHING HOME. Located at 175 West 17th, the house owned by James CUSHING was a mixture of QUEEN ANNE ARCHITECTURE with Italianate. This home and the one on the bluff behind it were once connected by a catwalk. The bluff-side home belonged to I. J. Cushing, a son, who was in business with his father. (1)

The rear of the house was built in 1848. James added the main part of the house to the original dwelling in the 1860s. (2)
