HOLLNAGEL, Charles. (Mecklenburg, Germany, Apr. 14, 1835--Unknown). Hollnagel arrived in the United States in December, 1860 and arrived in Dubuque on January 1, 1861. He cut wood during the first winter and worked on a flatboat during the summer. He entered the coopering business in 1865 and remained active in it until 1878 when he entered the grocery and provision business.
By 1911 he was a director of the Waterloo (Iowa) Casket Company and owned large tracts of land. He served as a trustee of ST. JOHN'S LUTHERAN CHURCH and was elected an alderman from the 5th Ward and served from 1883 to 1887.
