HOLLAND, Mary Ann. (Dubuque, IA- ). Wife of Lee Holland, hostage of Iranian militants, Holland (Mary Ann Connolly) met her future husband from Scales Mound, Illinois while both worked at a local restaurant. He was a student at LORAS COLLEGE.

Col. Holland, a resident of Warrenton, was a military attache at the U. S. embassy when Islamic fundamentalists invaded it on November 4, 1979, and took the American diplomatic staff prisoner. The incident provoked a crisis that contributed to the defeat of President Jimmy Carter by Ronald Reagan in the 1980 presidential election. The hostages were not released until January 20, 1981, the day Reagan was inaugurated. (1)
