HOGAN, Michael P. Jr.

Hogan, Michael P. Jr. (Dubuque, IA, Oct. 8, 1904--Jan. 26, 1969). The son of Michael P. Hogan Sr. and Anna (Stafford) Hogan, Michael was named Justice of the Peace in 1941, filling the unexpired term of his father when he died that year. He was then elected to that office for one term. In 1942, he married Ester L. Gau, with whom he had two sons and three daughters. In 1948, Hogan started his insurance firm, M. P. HOGAN INC.

Hogan chaired the Dubuque County Democrats in 1948-50 and 1953-1961. He was one of the 10 Iowa Presidential Electors in 1948, Iowa’s National Democratic Committee member 1950-53, chair of Iowa’s delegation to the 1956 Democratic National Convention in Chicago and chair of the Iowa Democratic Party Central Committee.

Hogan was an organizer of the Dubuque United Fund, serving as a solicitor in 1949, campaign chair in 1957, treasurer 1956-1963, and member of the board of trustees 1957-1969. Additionally, he was Treasurer of Dubuque Particular Council of ST. VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY, National Committee representative of Northeast Iowa Council of Boy Scouts of America, member of the advisory boards of CLARKE COLLEGE and Divine Word Seminary, president of St. Anthony’s Parish Council and member of Dubuque Assembly Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, Dubuque Moose Lodge, Izaak Walton League, DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, Navy League Dubuque Council and the Independent Insurance Association. He was a DUBUQUE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY member and director of the campaign to finance the society’s operation of the Ham House Museum.
