HIRSCHBACH MOTOR LINES. In 2015 Hirschbach Motor Lines, a Dubuque-headquartered company, employed more than 900 people and had a fleet of 700 tractors and 1,200 trailers providing temperature-controlled transportation for some of the nation's largest food producers.

In January 2015 the company announced its plan to obtain financing to purchase and renovate the KRETSCHMER MANUFACTURING COMPANY building at the corner of Washington and E. 9th Street in Dubuque's Millwork District. Approximately one hundred corporate and operational employees would move from East Dubuque in the spring. Temporary offices would be used until the renovation was complete in the fall of 2016. (1)

With the acquisition of John Christner Trucking, the seventh-largest refrigerated company in the nation, Hirschbach Motor Lines in 2022 became one of the largest refrigerated carriers in the United States. Based on 2021 rankings from Transport Topics, the acquisition would take Hirschbach from sixth-largest to the second-largest carrier in the United States with annual revenue exceeding $1 billion. The company would have more than 3,000 trucks, 5,000 trailers, and a $150 million "integrated logistics offering."
