HEYNE, Gustavus A. (Germany, June 27, 1860--Dubuque, IA, Dec. 25, 1927). Heyne, always fascinated with the cultivation of plants, leased the Linwood floral nursery in 1890, replaced the old structures with new buildings, and specialized in landscape gardening.

At that time, EAGLE POINT PARK was under construction. When the park board asked Heyne for a contribution, he volunteered his labor instead of money and took the responsibility for planning the development of the park. Heyne headed the park board as its superintendent for twenty years until the time of his death.
