HAUDENSHIELD, Sydney
HAUDENSHIELD, Sydney. (Dubuque, IA, May 12, 1893--Nov. 1, 1968). Sydney Haudenshield attended grade and high school in Dubuque and then entered BAYLESS BUSINESS COLLEGE. He worked for the U. S. Railway Mail Service in 1911 and then served as the chief clerk in the locomotive department of the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad Company in Dubuque until 1920.
Haudenshield then attended the Hohenschuh-Carpenter School of Embalming in Des Moines. He opened the Sydney Haudenshield Funeral Home in 1919. The business was located at 1258 Main and 2170 Central. In 1920 he was the first Republican elected county coroner and held the position for two years.
