GNIFFKE, Henry B. (Dubuque, IA, Nov. 5, 1865--Dubuque, IA, Mar. 10, 1936). After graduating from Washington University in St. Louis, Gniffke worked outside Dubuque until April, 1893. Returning to his hometown, he worked as an employee for many years of the GERMAN BANK. He then succeeded his father, Frederick A. GNIFFKE as publisher of the Dubuque National Demokrat, retiring with its closing in 1933. He served as a member of the public library board of trustees and was a director of the DUBUQUE BUILDING AND LOAN ASSOCIATION.

Gniffke also held public office. He was elected city treasurer and was re-elected in 1895 and 1897.
