GIESLER, Duane R.
GIESLER, Duane R. (Dubuque, IA, Sept. 4, 1941--Dubuque, IA, Apr. 1, 2011). Giesler, an upholsterer at FLEXSTEEL INDUSTRIES, INC. for twelve years was elected president and business agent of the Upholsterers International Union, Local 1861 in 1973. Becoming active in the international union, he was elected first vice president of the Upholsterers International Union, AFL-CIO in 1982. He was also appointed by the international union as health and welfare director. He helped negotiate the merger of the Upholsterers International and the United Steel Workers. In 1991 Giesler became the Steelworkers Pension Trust Pension Membership director. He retired in 2004.
In addition to his union activities, Giesler was a past City of Dubuque Planning and Zoning commissioner.
