GEORGE PEACOCK--505 ENGLISH LANE. The land on which this home was built was originally owned by George L. NIGHTINGALE. George and Mary Peacock purchased 9.1 acres and built this miner's cottage of native limestone and brick in 1847.

In 1852 John McKenzie purchased the property and sold some of the land for miners. He sold the home and the remaining 7.57 acres in 1875 to Valentine Minges, a gardener.

The Minges family remained in the home until 1924 when it was purchased by Dr. John and Lillian Kassmeyer. They willed the home to Anne Kirk, Lillian's niece in 1968.
