FLICK-ZIEPPRECHT BOX FACTORY
FLICK-ZIEPPRECHT BOX FACTORY. The A. R. Flick Box Company was established in February, 1900 and operated until March 20, 1911 when a reorganization was carried out and the Flick-Ziepprecht Box Factory was founded. The company was located at the foot of 7th Street. The company in 1911 employed seventy-five people and shipped from two hundred to two hundred fifty railroad cars of boxes annually with a value of $85,000.
The company's wooden boxes included crates of all kinds, beer and soda cases, cigar boxes, cigar box labels, and cigar makers' supplies. Egg cases and poultry cases were made of cottonwood because the pure food laws provided that eggs and dressed poultry could not be shipped in any other wood that might taint the eggs or poultry. Business centered in Iowa, Minnesota, the Dakotas, Nebraska, Illinois, and Wisconsin.
Wooden cigar boxes supplied the material from which miniature mansions were often made.
