FENGLER, Edwin A.
FENGLER, Edwin A. (Dubuque, IA, Jan. 26, 1868--Dubuque, IA, Feb. 28, 1930). Raised and educated in Dubuque, Edwin took a course at the BAYLESS BUSINESS COLLEGE and in 1884 went to work learning the furniture and upholstery business. When the company with which he was working closed, he became a clerk on a steamboat. (1)
In 1887 he went to work with his father, but chose to work as a fireman on the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad. Upon the death of his father, George FENGLER, Edwin returned to Dubuque and took over the management of the EAGLE POINT LIME WORKS. Upon its incorporation in 1903, he was elected the company president. (2)
One of the important business activities in which he was involved was the DUBUQUE HIGH BRIDGE. In 1901 Alice M. Fengler, his mother, agreed to deed to the city all the property owned by her needed for the approach to the bridge. She was to receive $4,000 with additional payment made to her son, Edwin for all grading work performed on the approach which was 215 feet in length. (3) In 1904 he took over the property and other assets of the EAGLE POINT BOAT HOUSE.
