FEDERAL BANK BUILDING
FEDERAL BANK BUILDING. Located at Ninth and Main STREETS, the Federal Bank Building was the home of DUBUQUE BANK AND TRUST COMPANY when it opened for business on July 17, 1935.
Following its construction there was some suggestion made that the TOWN CLOCK should be removed from its tower and placed on the new building. The thought was the tower would not be as stable and in its new position, the clock could be seen from a further distance. Fans of the tower rejected the idea. (1)
Following the purchase of the building by Amtas Company, a company owned by AMERICAN TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK, Dubuque Bank and Trust moved during July, 1944 to the former location of UNION TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK at 14th and Central. American Trust and Savings Bank moved into the Federal Bank Building in 1945.
One of the most distinctive features of the American Trust Building was its gigantic BAROMETER.
