ERTL, John. (Dubuque, IA, Feb. 25, 1939--Guttenberg, IA, Jan. 24, 2024) One of the family whose name became synonymous with scale model farm toys, John attended Nativity Grade School, LORAS ACADEMY, and BAYLESS BUSINESS COLLEGE. While attending school, he helped assemble toy tractors in the family basement. This became ERTL COMPANY INC.. He married Patricia Bierman in 1960.
Ertl left the family business in 1974. He and his wife moved the family to Guttenberg where he started Guttenberg Indusries, Inc., a custom plastic injection molding company.
