DUPONT, Alfred J.
DUPONT, Alfred J. (St. Donatus, IA, July 28, 1902-- Dubuque, IA, Feb. 22, 1957). l Dupont was the son of Peter J. and Josephine Engler Dupont. He moved to Dubuque in 1926 and except for the years between 1932 and 1938 lived in the city the rest of his life. He married Marie Stecher at HOLY GHOST CATHOLIC CHURCH.
When he returned to Dubuque in 1938 he was the power sales engineer for the DUBUQUE ELECTRIC COMPANY. He became the assistant district manager in 1941 before being named the district manager in 1951.
As president of the DUBUQUE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE in 1954 and 1955 and a member of its Development Committee, he was recognized for his efforts to bring new industries to the community. He was later named secretary of the DUBUQUE INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION which proposed to finance buildings in one of the first INDUSTRIAL PARKS.
Dupont was a member of the Northeast Iowa Boy Scout Council's executive board for ten years. He was also a past president of the Dubuque Kiwanis Club; a grand knight of the Dubuque council of the KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS; a member of the Duborg Assembly, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; past president and general campaign chairman of the DUBUQUE COMMUNITY CHEST and United Fund. He was a past president of the Dubuque Electric League and was a member of the ELKS CLUB and the DUBUQUE GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB.
