In June 1891 the Dubuque Packing and Provision Company merged with the DUBUQUE BUTCHERS' ASSOCIATION, another meatpacking company. (1) On June 27, 1891 it was announced that the name of the new company would be the DUBUQUE PACKING COMPANY. The company was to begin business on July 1, 1891 with a capital of $50,000 with each of the original companies owning half. Directors included C. Schmidt, B. Hobb, Charles J. W. SAUNDERS, L. Reinecke, and C. Steiber. The former site of the Dubuque Butchers' Association would be used for slaughtering for local butchers.
