1928: Back in Old Dubuque (song). This was a show tune from a musical in 1928. (1)

1944 The location Dubuque, Iowa was mentioned in the first edition of "It Really Happened," a comic. Along with the name was a picture of the official SEAL of the city.

1957 Meredith Willson's popular "Music Man" mentioned eight Iowa communities in the first song, "Iowa Stubborn." Dubuque was the first.

1967: Dubuque Blues (song) In 1967 “The Association,” one of the 1960s most popular bands, performed in the Locust Street Parking Ramp at a teen dance. Jules Alexander, a member of the band, wrote the tune that was released on an album in 1969. 1980: LADY FROM DUBUQUE (THE) by Edward Albee premiered on Broadway and ran for twelve performances.

1984 "Murder, She Wrote" (television series) Dubuque is mentioned in the first episode. (2)

2000 Happy Accidents (film) "Sam," played by Vincent D'Onofrio, tells "Ruby," played by Marisa Tomei that he has traveled back in time from May 8, 2439--starting in Dubuque, Iowa, "on the Atlantic Coast." (3)

2009: "Up in the Air" (motion picture) "Ryan Bingham" (George Clooney) achieves his goal of reaching 10 million air miles over Dubuque, Iowa.

2012: "The Bachelor" (television program) Long speculation ended on March 9, 2015 when Arlington, Iowa farmer, Chris Soules known as "Prince Farming" to his fans chose Whitney over Becca to be his soulmate. The three-hour finale featured scenes of the JULIEN DUBUQUE BRIDGE, the TOWN CLOCK and HOTEL JULIEN DUBUQUE.

December 9, 2018: Saturday Night Live. Dubuque was the topic on "Weekend Review," a popular segment on "Saturday Night Live." Actress Aidy Bryant appearing as "Carrie Krum," a seventh grade travel expert, informed host Michael Che that Dubuque is a “can’t-miss” destination.

2013 Wolf of Wall Street, a poplar motion picture, has Leonardo Di Caprio learning of penny stock profits from a person selling shares for a company located in Dubuque. Mention comes in the first ten minutes of the film. (4)

2024 Band People, a book by Franz Nicolay, p. 17 "In the pre-rock decades of recorded popular music in America, the pre-eminent stereotype of a band person was the big-band "sideman"-the Willy Lomans of jazz, playing at the union office, sleeping upright in the band bus after a dance hall gig in Dubuque."
