Dell, John W. (Dubuque, IA, Dec. 17, 1931--West Palm Beach, FL, Feb. 18, 2012). Spending his young adult life as a lineman, construction worker and owner of one of the area's first television repair shops, Dell served in the air force during the KOREAN CONFLICT before earning his B.A. in business degree from LORAS COLLEGE in 1958. He earned his law degree from Notre Dame University in 1962 and moved with his family to Florida.

From 1962 to 1971 Dell was an associate and partner in the law firm of Miller, Cone, Owen, Wagner and Nugent. He then established his own firm of Dell, Smith and Casey P.A. from 1971 to 1982 the year he joined the court. He returned in 2001 after twenty years as an appellate court judge for the 4th District Court of Appeals where he presided as Chief Judge from 1993 to 1995. He was the recipient of the Monsignor Jeremiah P. Mahoney Award for Outstanding Catholic Lawyer in 1986.
