CHADWICK BLOCK
CHADWICK BLOCK. In 1890 the announcement was published that the Chadwick property at the corner of Locust and First STREETS, was to be improved. The old "rookeries" were cleared away for the construction of a two-story brick business block. (1)
In the passing years, the building at 249 W. First St. was the home of the TRI-STATE HATCHERY and later SCHILLING HARDWARE. When metal siding that had been applied to the exterior was removed, a corbeled brick cornice and carved limestone lintels were revealed along with original cast iron columns on the storefront. (2)
