BYRNE, Thomas. (Dublin, Ireland, 1829—Dubuque, IA, Nov. 29, 1909). Bryne arrived in Dubuque in the late 1850s and became a contractor responsible for erecting such notable Dubuque structures as ST. LUKE'S UNITED METHODIST CHURCH at 12th and Main and ST. COLUMBKILLE CATHOLIC CHURCH and school on Rush St. In Elkader, IA, he was responsible for the construction of St. Joseph’s church and the historic double stone-arch bridge. He served eight years on the Dubuque City Council.
