BUDDE, Linda
BUDDE, Linda. (Dubuque, IA-- ). In 1981 Banco Mortgage Company, a subsidiary of Northwest Bancoporation specializing in federally guaranteed loans from the Federal Housing Administration and the Veterans Administration announced in August that it would be closing. The company was regarded as the city's second-largest home loan source between DUBUQUE SAVINGS AND LOAN ASSOCIATION. Linda Budde, assistant manager of the local Banco office for eight years, announced that she would generate home loans as an employee of FIRST NATIONAL BANK OF DUBUQUE and that Banco had agreed to buy the mortgages. (1) In 1988 while the vice president and manager of the real estate loan department at First National, Budde was appointed the regional vice president for the Iowa Mortgage Bankers Association. (2) In 1990 the former president of the Dubuque Chapter of Women in Management, Budde was vice-president and manager of the residential real estate loan department at First National Bank. The same year she was president-election of the Iowa Mortgage Bankers Association. In 1991 she became as the first female president of the Iowa Bankers Mortgage Association running unopposed. (3)
Considered an expert on loans involving the Veterans Administration and Federal Housing Administration, Budde began in the banking industry as a general bookkeeper. She later posted real estate mortgages to ledger cards and calculated interest rates at AMERICAN TRUST AND SAVINGS BANK after graduation from DUBUQUE SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL. In addition to her career, Budde served on the boards of the Dubuque Board of Realtors and the DUBUQUE AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
An activist in community organizations, Budde served as chairwoman of the Trades and Industry Crusade Campaign of the Dubuque County Chapter of the American Cancer Society and was the chapter president. She also served as a member of the CHURCH OF THE RESURRECTION Parish Council, management advisory council of the Northeast Iowa Community College, and the Dubuque County Eminent Domain Compensation Board.
An active fund-raiser, Budde assisted the efforts of the DUBUQUE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, United Way, National Council for Youth Leadership, Stonehill Care Center, YOUNG WOMEN'S CHRISTIAN ASSOCIATION (Y.W.C.A.), and the Dubuque Chapter of the American Cancer Society. In 2003 Linda and her husband Michael BUDDE awarded the first Mike and Linda Budde Teaching Excellence Award to Craig Schaefer, associate professor of communication arts and director of the Loras College Television studio. He was nominated by fellow faculty members for his dedication and in recognition of his media production work with nonprofit organizations and the ARCHDIOCESE OF DUBUQUE. (4)
Respected among her peers in the banking business, Budde received the Charlotte Danstrom Women of Achievement Award in 1986 for the corporate division from the Dubuque Chapter of Women in Management.
In 2002 she part of the staff of the State Central Loan Production Facility at 1805 John F. Kennedy Road. (5) In 2012 she was the mortgage loan officer at Premier Bank. (6)
