BOSVELD, John
BOSVELD, John. (Oskaloosa, IA, Aug. 7, 1940-- Mason City, IA, Oct. 17, 2014 The son of Louis and Bernice (Schalekamp) Bosveld, John graduated from Mason City High School and received an Associate’s Degree from Mason City Junior College, a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Iowa and throughout his life pursued additional education at Bozeman State University, the University of Northern Iowa, and the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
John was a science and math teacher for over forty years beginning his career at the Columbus Junction School in 1962. For the majority of his career, he taught chemistry at STEPHEN HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOOL. After 28 years of teaching at Hempstead from 1969 to 1997, John retired from full time teaching but continued to work with students as a substitute teacher until 2006.
John sang in the Dubuque Chorale for over twenty years and had the opportunity to travel with the Chorale on several overseas tours. He was an active member of WESTMINSTER PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH and a retired member of the National Science Teachers Association, National Education Association, Iowa State Education Association and the DUBUQUE EDUCATION ASSOCIATION.
