BOLDT, Gustav (Hamburg, Germany, Jan. 21, 1850--Dubuque, IA, Nov. 5, 1908). After completing his education in Germany, Boldt took a course in bookkeeping and another in languages and moved to the United States. He settled in Galena where he worked as a bookkeeper before coming to Dubuque in 1873. He worked as a purser for the DIAMOND JO LINE for about nine years and then for MYERS-COX COMPANY for about six years as a bookkeeper.

After a trip to Europe to regain his health, Boldt returned to Dubuque and opened a confectionery and catering business. In 1904 BOLDT'S was incorporated with Gustav serving as president.
