BIG JOE MINE. In 1907 the Big Joe Mine, a producer of ZINC, was sold by George Frost and Pat Royce to J. J. Ott and Charles R. Scott. The company had a claim on all the land between Alpine and Bluff and West Fifth and Julien. For three years prior to the sale it had been the only producing mine in Dubuque. The mining shaft in 1907 had reached 32 feet in depth with promising ore found at each level.
